subordinate FC Salzburg Missed early entry to the round of 16 of the Champions League. The Bulls lost to defending champions OSC Lille 0-1 in a Group E match. Before the final match day, the Austrian champion is second in the table. On the eighth of December, Salzburg will meet at home with Seville.
Yilmaz starts one hit with determination, but also luck
After a strong initial stage for the French, the Bulls dominated the match and also found their first chance to score: Camara put Benjamin Cisco in the spotlight with a superb pass into depths, who was not sufficiently determined in the penalty area to finish (9). Shortly thereafter, Olmer tested Lille’s Grbic (tenth) keeper with a low shot.
However, the French champion took the initiative: Yilmaz supported himself with strength and with a lot of luck in the penalty area, Olmer’s skin fell at the feet of Jonathan David. The 21-year-old Canadian kept getting cold and fired from close range on his own – 1-0 (31). Thus, the homeowners narrowly entered the second half.
Salzburg started in vain
The Salzburg side were very committed even after the break, despite not having the necessary focus on attack. Karim Adeyemi and Associates could not develop as one used to. Lille pulled back more and more as the second half continued and let the Bulls run.
However, in the 73rd minute, things became difficult in the policemen’s penalty area: after Whopper hit a Bamba shot from the line in desperate need, Renato Sanchez came close to the backcourt. The Portuguese chased the ball over the goal. The Austrian Championship leader then started unsuccessfully. The French were on the defensive and made the difference 1-0 over time. Salzburg need a home win in the last group game against Sevilla in order to get a ticket to the Round of 16.
