statistics: According to Statistics Austria, there were 811,736 domestic units in Austria belonging to 723,044 enterprises and employing 4,741,955 people on October 31, 2021, the reference date for the 2021 local business unit census. Sole proprietorships were the most common type of enterprise, however, more than Half of all workers in Austria work for companies with at least two local units. More than half of companies in Austria (60.5%) consist of only one self-employed person without employees. These organizations are called one person organizations. Only 4.8% of all Austrian companies were active in more than one location. However, in 2021, more than half of all workers were employed there (52.9%).
