The men’s quarter-finals of the 3×3 World Championships will be held in Antwerp (Belgium) without Austrian basketball players.
The ÖBV selection with Nico, Stephen Kaltenbrunner, Matthias Lenortner and Martin Termal was eliminated on Saturday afternoon in play by 13:19 against France. For Alexia Allesch, Anja Fuchs-Robetin, Camilla Neumann and Michaela Wildbacher, the tournament ended the day before after the group stage.
Antwerp meant the World Cup premiere for both men and women. The local selections qualified through the world rankings and entered the tournament in 12th or 10th place. Although many games are lost relatively closely, the balance is ultimately realistic. In nine matches for the two Austrian teams there was only one win to celebrate. It was an 8-22 men’s game against Egypt in the opening match on Tuesday.
Matisse Lenortner was able to present himself offensively well. The top Austrian scored 7.0 points in the match and was one of the tournament’s top scorers.
The next target of the ÖBV selection is the 3×3 European Championship. The continental championship starts from 9.-11. September in Graz in the landscape.
