350 deaths per day
An average of 5,100 people have been hospitalized with the virus per day over the past week, and about 350 have died per day. About 330 million people live in the United States.

According to the report, Omicron subvariant BA.5 has grown to become the dominant viral variant in the United States, and now accounts for 65 percent of cases.
Anthony Fauci, an immunologist and epidemiology adviser to the US president, said that current knowledge suggests that BA.5 does not lead to more severe courses, but has a developmental advantage over other omicron subtypes.
