The New England Patriots abruptly parted ways with cornerback Stefon Gilmore and replaced him with the Carolina Panthers – for a six-round pick in 2023. The report NFL network.
Previously, Adam Shifter announced from ESPNGilmore was released. Gilmore and the Patriots negotiated unsuccessfully an on-season contract extension, so the defensive player’s 2019 contract was to expire at the end of the season.
Gilmore started the season on the list of physically unable to perform due to a hamstring injury and was not eligible to play again until Week 6.
Gilmore, a two-time All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowler, joined the Patriots as a free agent in 2017, signing a five-year, $65 million contract, of which $40 million was guaranteed. His $7 million salary that season wasn’t guaranteed due to him being on the PUP roster, so Patriota cleared Cap Space for $6.8 million.

Gilmore was originally the 10th overall pick in the 2012 draft for the Buffalo Bills and is entering his 10th NFL season this year.
With the Patriots, J.C. Jackson recently played up front in Gilmore’s absence. However, Jackson’s contract also expires at the end of the season, so the Patriots in the back corner could face a major disruption soon.
