“There is a lot of snow in and around the racetrack, and there are also a lot of snow drifts. We have to clean the track now, it was not possible to achieve a fair race,” Marcus Waldner, the FIS principal race director, said in an interview with ORF. The weather is getting better on Saturday and nothing should stand in the way of the race.Another round of downhill action is scheduled for Saturday and Super G on Sunday.Three more speed events will follow in Beaver Creek (USA) as a continuation of North American racing.
“It’s a shame, but my spirits are good that we’ll have a race tomorrow. I’m making sure to keep the tension in. I’ll refocus and be ready for tomorrow,” said Vincent Krechmeier, the two-time world champion.
For Christian Walder, the refusal was “acceptable” because security was not provided. However, it takes a lot of manpower to get the snow out, and the regulator is not in a very wide position. “You can’t compare that to Kitzbühel or Wengen. I hope they can have two super races here,” said Walder. Max Franz was also hoping that “the people here are smart” so you can enjoy great races.
