Saturday’s winner Johannes Lamparter finished second in a combined singles duo event in the Val di Fiemme region on Sunday. The double world cross-country champion started in third place after jumping and drove for a long time.
But in the end, he finally had to bend Germany’s Vincennes Geiger by five seconds and save second place in the finish race from Olympic singles champion Johannes Rydzyk (Germany) by 0.7 seconds. ÖSV’s second best player was Lukas Greiderer in 14th place.
“Of course it was really difficult today. I tried to do it all over again to make it as difficult as possible for the others. Vincenz was very strong on the last lap, and he was incredibly fast,” said Lamparter, analyzing the 10km race. “I am very happy to get second place. The jump was a bit aggressive on the small hill. Now I am looking forward to the big hill in Klingenthal.”
Norway’s Jarl Magnus Reber, who suffers from back pain, was absent on Saturday. He was injured while training jumping in the Vieme Valley. But Reaper remained in the yellow jersey, winning all seven competitions he completed. Lamparter rose to 100 points with an 80-point lead from Sunday.
Greider can torment himself again
As the second best Austrian, Greider was “completely satisfied” with his running performance. “It feels really good again, I can really torment myself. Now is the time to get on with the work,” said the sprint world champion who recently came back from a cold (with Lamparder).
Martin Fritz did not start on Sunday because he was sitting in the car with a service man who has a close relative who has tested positive for coronavirus. Despite keeping all security measures in mind, Fritz flew home early to be on the safe side.
The Olympic Games are already on
The rest of the team will now go home. Olympia is getting closer and closer. “Yes, it won’t be long now. We will prepare at the height, then Klingenthal comes, then a short break. We will get past Blanica, then we will attack in the World Cup at our home in Seefeld,” said Lamparter, explaining the schedule.
ÖSV coach Christoph Eugen was very satisfied after three times on the indoor podium. “We were already on the podium in Mixed on Friday. That was one of the most beautiful weekends. If you’re on the podium every day, it makes you happy.”
