A few minutes after Dortmund beat Freiburg, two-time top scorer Erling Haaland caused a stir in an interview. The scorer made the Dutch league leaders look so bad. Hans-Joachim Watzke reacted immediately.
Borussia Dortmund had an almost perfect evening in their 5-1 win over Freiburg – until Erling Haaland a few minutes after the final whistle in Jan Age Fjörtoft on the Norwegian TV station’s microphone Football Viaplay kicked and left.
Haaland spoke quite a bit about the game and when it came to his uncertain future at Dortmund, he surprised the striker with surprising comments. “The club puts me under pressure, I have to make a decision. I have to accept that. But I just want to play football,” Haaland said.
Haaland: “I think I should come to Pete…”
“I haven’t said anything respectful of Dortmund for the past six months, I’ve let everyone talk around the world. That probably means I have to come to Potte now. They want an answer. That means things have to happen.”
In fact, this was the 21-year-old’s first public appearance in several months, and Haaland recently pulled out completely and is no longer attending any interviews.
Haaland wants to ‘get things moving’
The 21-year-old still has a contract with BVB until June 2024. However, he could leave the summer DFB Cup winner due to an exit clause for €75m. BVB officials recently stated that they want to meet with Haaland and those around him soon to clarify the future of the Storm Gem.
“I don’t want to think about anything but football because it gets difficult when I have other things on my mind, but they’ve been pressing for so long that I’m going to start things off,” Haaland said. The “perfect world” is not decided now. “We are in a difficult period with a lot of matches, I really want to play football but I can’t.”
Watsky “doesn’t understand” Haaland’s statement
General Manager Hans-Joachim Watzke responded to the criticism by not understanding. “We don’t put Erling under pressure at all,” Watsky told the newspaper. “There are currently no talks or appointments, so I can’t understand that.” Funk Media Group.
“We can’t wait for May, that would make sense for him too. As a professional he has to understand that at some point you’re going to talk about the future,” Watzke said, but he was also understanding to Haaland: “Erling is a spontaneous person and another young man, and he’s allowed By doing that, that’s not a problem.” He himself has a “wonderful relationship” with Haaland. But he also had to “have a little understanding of our situation.”
Haaland currently doesn’t want to “think about anything other than football because it gets difficult when I have other things on my mind, but they’ve been pressing for so long that I’m going to start things off,” Haaland said. In a “perfect world” he will not decide now: “We are in a difficult phase with a lot of matches, I really only want to play football, but I can’t.”
At least Watzke hasn’t written off Haaland completely yet: “What does hope mean? If so, we’re very happy. And if it turns out differently, we’ll solve it too.”
