According to British media, the kidnapper in a synagogue in the US state of Texas was known to British intelligence. The BBC and the Palestinian News Agency today reported that MI5 had been monitoring the Blackburn Man in 2020.
At the time of his departure to the United States, the 44-year-old was no longer observed and no longer classified as a hazard. It remains unclear how the convicted man was able to fly to the United States.
The Briton was killed by the FBI on Saturday at a synagogue in Colleville, near Dallas. The four hostages were released unharmed. Two teenagers remain in UK custody in connection with the case.
“Someone interesting”
Malik Faisal A was classified as a ‘Subject of Interest’ (SOI) by MI5 in 2020, the BBC and the Palestinian Authority reported. In 2021 his grade was demoted. His family has been “totally devastated” in a now-deleted statement carried by the BBC.
He was suffering from mental problems. British Home Secretary Priti Patel told Parliament yesterday that the protection of Jewish institutions in the UK would be tightened in response to the attack.
