British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has pledged to provide 120 armored vehicles and anti-ship missile systems to Ukraine to repel the Russian attack. “We are increasing our military and economic support and assembling a global coalition to end this tragedy,” he said after meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on Saturday.
It must be ensured that “Ukraine lives and thrives as a free and sovereign country”. Johnson made a surprise trip to the Ukrainian capital on Saturday. Earlier today, Selinsky had already received Chancellor Karl Nehammer.
The UK government said shipments of new arms exceeded yesterday’s pledge of £100m worth of arms. This package includes modern Starstreak anti-aircraft missiles, 800 anti-tank weapons and precision-guided munitions. Britain is already one of Ukraine’s main supporters and has supplied Ukraine with arms. The Kyiv leadership is interested in heavy equipment, and above all anti-aircraft systems.
“We are getting stronger”
“The results will not be long in coming, but now you can say: we will become stronger,” said Zelensky’s Chief of Staff Andrei Ermak, according to Okrajinska Pravda. Johnson announced that London would guarantee another World Bank loan of $500 million to Ukraine.
On Friday, a delegation led by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU Foreign Policy Coordinator Josep Borrell visited Kyiv. As a sign of solidarity, European politicians also went to the suburb of Buca, where the bodies of hundreds of civilians were found last weekend. Nyhammer was also in Bucha on Saturday. (dpa/apa)
