DrFrench President Emmanuel Macron Right-wing populist Marine Le Pen qualified for Sunday’s crucial run-off. Left-leaning Union Popular candidate Jean-Luc Melenchon missed the second round with a score of 20.1 percent, according to the latest forecast by French Radio 2 at 9 p.m.
Macron got induction by France 2 with 28.4 percent of the vote. Le Pen had 23.3 percent. The two candidates face a run-off in two weeks, on April 24.
Le Pen appealed to all voters to join her on Sunday evening. “It is not an option, it is a civilized decision,” said the candidate of the National Rally in Paris. It would ensure national independence and the ability for ordinary French to make their own decisions. “I will set France straight in five years,” Le Pen vowed.
The candidate of the right-wing Républicains party, Valerie Pecresse, who received only 4.7 percent of the vote according to initial projections, called for the election of Emmanuel Macron on Sunday evening. If his run-off rival, Le Pen, comes to power, Pécresse said in Paris, there is a risk of “disastrous consequences for the country and future generations”. After that, France will be erased from the European and international stage. Socialist candidate Anne Hidalgo, with 1.8 percent voting in favour, called on her supporters to vote for Macron on April 24.
Le Pen can also hope to reserve voters among Mélenchon supporters. The left-leaning people’s platform had already announced that it would not recommend voting for water flow we will give. Already in 2017, voter emigration in favor of Le Pen was noted among his supporters.
Far-right career changer Eric Zemmour, a former journalist, got 7 percent of the vote with the Payback movement. His recommendation was eagerly awaited. Before the first round of voting, Zemmour indicated his readiness for joint rallies with Le Pen.
The outcome of the vote is crucial to France’s future European policy and thus to the future of the European Union as well. Le Pen declared that the first thing she wants to do as president is remove the European flag. She does not want to be a “European county governor”, but rather to preside over a proud nation-state. Although it no longer plans to Frexit and does not want to abolish the euro, it wants to defend a path of national assertiveness based on the model of Hungary and Poland.
If she moved to the Elysée, Le Pen had declared a referendum to enshrine the French constitution that national law took precedence over EU law. It is not clear whether this perspective will lead to the formation of the so-called Republican Front against Le Pen. In 2017, Macron managed to rally left-wing voters against Le Pen. It was the same when he founded the party in 2002 Jean Marie Le PenToday’s candidate’s father reached the second round.
