After Real Madrid’s thrilling 3-1 victory over Manchester City in the Champions League semi-final second leg on Wednesday evening, euphoria reigned in the Spanish capital. Right in the middle of the celebrations: ÖFB Legion star David Alaba, who last lost against Pep Guardiola and his team, but previously won the hearts of Real Madrid fans with a convincing performance.
Alaba did a fantastic job with Marc Janko after his free transfer from FC Bayern to Real Madrid in the summer. “He was looked at very critically when he left Bayern Munich for Real Madrid. A lot of people said he wouldn’t play a role there. The way he shaped his first season there is really great. He forgot about a club legend like Ramos you have to take your hat off to Alaba. You have to congratulate. Alaba for the stature it has achieved in a very short time,” sky.
Alaba is currently off with an injury – the Austria international remained in the dressing room during the first leg against Manchester United. “I hope he makes it to the final,” Janko said. There is always enough time, and the Real Madrid central defender doesn’t have to worry about his comeback either. At the end of the week, Real Madrid secured victory in the tournament with a 4-0 victory over Espanyol and can now rest in La Liga.
In the first leg against City, Real was defeated 3-4. During the relatively calm first half of the second leg, events came to a head in the closing stages. Riyad Mahrez gave the citizens the lead 17 minutes before the end of the match. In injury time, Real Madrid’s Joker Rodrygo (90′, 90’+1) finally scored two goals to make the stunning turnaround. Karim Benzema (95) set the finish line in extra time with a penalty kick.
