The fires cause massive damage in the Krasnoyarsk region of Russia. By Sunday, seven dead and about 20 wounded were counted. However, authorities have also reported a glimmer of hope.

As of Sunday, 7 people were killed and 19 injured in severe forest fires in Siberia’s Krasnoyarsk region. The Krasnoyarsk administration said six of the injured were firefighters.

Three people, including two children, were said to have been killed in the village of Talashanka. It is located about 200 km north of the city of Krasnoyarsk. Two people were killed in the village of Nikolsk, 300 km west of Krasnoyarsk. Two other people were killed in a fire in the town of Achinsk, west of Krasnoyarsk, on Saturday.

Due to violent forest fires, the Krasnoyarsk region declared a state of emergency. Extinguishing work is made more difficult by strong winds of up to 40 meters per second. Officials said all fires have now been contained. 273 gunfire sources were counted in the area. More than 500 homes were destroyed.
