Bora’s team was thrilled after winning stage two within a week in the two toughest stages of the Tour of Italy to date.
Celebrating his second Giro stage win in his career after 2020, Hindley said, “This hasn’t been the easiest year for me so far — I’ve busted my ass trying to even get into the Giro and now I’m missing out on words!”
Emmanuel Buchmann also showed a strong performance on the last climb and finished seventh by 16secs. The top climber said, “It’s great how we got started in the Giro with a Lenard victory in the first mountain end and now today’s victory. I was also up front today – a really good day for us.”

‘Benefited from it’: Al-Daj analyzes Hendley’s victory
Behind Lopez, Joao Almeida (+0:12), Bardet (+0:14) and Carapaz (+0:15) improving to the following places, Hindley is now fifth, 20 seconds behind Maglia Rosa.
Although 13.6 kilometers with an 8.4% incline at the end of 191 kilometers with five mountain classifications was an absolute endurance test, ten drivers reached the finish line at 1665 meters within a minute.
Jirou: Yates loses all chances
The Ineos team dominated the difficult final of the stage until nearly five kilometers from the end. When Karapaz’s last assistant veered there, he attacked the Olympic champion and only Bardet and Mikkel Landa could catch up with them. But the trio could not decisively part, Hindley returned with two other drivers and won the race for today’s victory.
Meanwhile, Simon Yates lost every chance of a comprehensive win in Abruzzo: the Briton lost touch early and finished 11:15 minutes late – as the Hungary time trial winner he shone in a week ago on the first Sunday of the Giro. .
Jiro: Bora’s team regains first place
Bora-hansgrohe reclaimed the top spot in the team rankings with a solid team performance. The race team’s only bitter point was the result of co-candidate Wilko Kieldermann: The Dutchman had a glitch on the penultimate mountain descent, was able to catch up first and then lost over ten minutes in the Blockhaus.
The new wearer of the mountain jersey is Italian Diego Rosa, who, as a separate, collected several points in the first mountain classifications on the day he overtook Quinn Bowman and Kamna.
The Giro ended in Rüdiger Selig (Zwenkau/Lotto-Soudal) race, so only ten of the eleven German riders who originally started the race remain.
After the second day of rest, the Giro d’Italia 2022 continues on Tuesday with a more extensive stage from Pescara to Jese.
