On Wednesday, the European Parliament will vote on important parts of the European Union’s climate package. It concerns, among other things, a possible de facto ban on combustion engines from 2035.

In addition, foreign traders will have to pay tax in the future if they sell their goods in the EU and climate-damaging gases are emitted during production. The background to the vote is a proposal by the European Union Commission for a “55 fit” legislative package to reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions by 55 per cent by 2030 compared to 1990 and to become climate-neutral by 2050.
