Where Michael Ravel’s athletic future lies remains uncertain.
Since Tuesday, there has been at least some clarity as to who will be the new coach for the Dallas Stars from next season. Peter Debor takes over from Rick Bowness, who resigned after a bitter first-round loss to Calgary Flames in the NHL Playoffs.
DeBoer has coached the Vegas Golden Knights for the past three seasons, but was surprisingly missed last season and subsequently released. In his first two years as a coach with the Nevada team, he reached the Stanley Cup semi-finals.
The 53-year-old has coached the San Jose Sharks and New Jersey Devils, among others. He reached the Stanley Cup Finals with both teams, losing six games with his team on both occasions.
The Canadian president coached 1,015 NHL games over 14 seasons, winning 513 of those games. His first stop in the world’s top ice hockey league was with the Panthers in Florida.
Woodcraft runs with Oilers
The Edmonton Oilers, this year’s Western Conference finalists, have employee news to report.
Interim coach Jay Woodcraft took over as head coach from Dave Tibbett earlier this year and led the talented team around superstars Conor McDavid and Leon Drysittel to the semi-finals. There, Alberta lost to current finalist Colorado Avalanche.
His contract has now been officially extended for three years, until 2025.
