Svika Beck, one of the most famous Israeli musicians and father-in-law of Hollywood filmmaker Quentin Tarantino, died yesterday at his home at the age of 72. The singer-songwriter was also known by his nickname “Maestro”. Perhaps his biggest hit was celebrated in 1998 when Dana won the International Song Contest with the song “Diva” he wrote.
Beck was born in Poland in 1949 and immigrated to Israel with his parents when he was eight years old. The singer took his first steps in the world of music in the mid-sixties as the lead singer of several local bands. He is best known for his starring role in the Hebrew version of Musical Poetry in the early 1970s.

He also celebrated musical success with his wife Merit Chem Ur. His daughter Daniela, who is also a singer in addition to her modeling career, married Tarantino in 2018. The two live in Tel Aviv with their children.
Beck also praised Israeli politics: “Svika was a revolutionary artist of her generation, and a pillar of Israeli pop music,” Prime Minister Jair Lapid said. “Svika passed away today, but the songs and melodies he left will be heard for many years to come.” President Isaac Herzog said Beck “breathed new life into the Israeli cultural scene and brought about a revolutionary change. His music entered our hearts and became an integral part of the soundtrack in our lives.”
