At Gamescom 2022 we had the opportunity to take a look at the new mobile branch of the Yu-Gi-Oh series! September 6th is now the date for the global release on mobile devices.
The new game principle gives more tactical depth
In the show, Konami showed us a short trailer and explained the gameplay in more detail. A completely new feature is that in Cross Duel, up to four players can participate in a match, something that has never happened before in any other Yu-Gi-Oh! Furthermore, a maximum of three Monster, Trap and/or Spell Cards can be placed on the playing field. Why three, you ask? This is for the simple reason that Yu-Gi-Oh! Cross Duel stands out from other branches.
The court is arranged in such a way that another player is placed on the right and left, as well as opposite you, that is, the playing field is arranged in a cross. Hence the name of the game. You now have three fields to attack the respective player on your right, left, right in front of you, or facing you.
Thus, Cross Duel is given a rather tactical note, since the gameplay here is somewhat different from traditional card games. For example, it should also be possible to treat your allies with special monsters, which, of course, you must put in the appropriate position on the field.
Three game modes
There are three game modes in total: 4 player, 4 player, 4 player and 1 player mode. In the 4-player match, you will be competing against players from all over the world in real time. The 4-player co-op is a very special mode, because a particularly powerful monster is placed in the middle of the field.
To defeat him, you must team up with three other players and fight against him together. In single player mode, you fight in exciting tag team duels with well-known characters from the Yu-Gi-Oh series. Here you have a variety of characters from all over the world of Yu-Gi-Oh! to cooperate with them.
Beautiful 3D animations and custom monster skills
Moreover, it is possible to create so-called “rooms” in the lobby, as you may be familiar with from other multiplayer titles. It can be provided with a password so that you can invite your friends. Up to 32 players can be accommodated in one room.
You can now also evolve your monsters, so you can equip them with various skills that can be further developed over the course of the game. Furthermore, Yu-Gi-Oh! Cross Duel animate all monsters with beautiful 3D graphics, which looks very cool for a mobile branch.
Unfortunately, it was not possible to test the Cross Duel in the exhibition, but pre-recording is already on and this is You can do here. As a new player experience with modified game mechanics, Cross Duel is well suited for both newcomers and Yu-Gi-Oh fans! Will you try it?
