Guinea is not allowed to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final due to the country’s lack of infrastructure. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the decision on Saturday. The West African country, one of the continent’s poorest, had earlier said it was not ready to host the tournament. The federation’s executive committee will discuss the details of the tournament’s reallocation at its meeting in Algiers on Saturday.
Federation President Patrice Motsepe traveled to Guinea to inform the country of the decision and to ensure support in establishing the appropriate infrastructure and facilities for the tournament. In September 2021, a military junta led by Mamadi Domboya took control of Guinea.
always changing
Recently, the Confederation of African Football has already decided to postpone the Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for the summer of 2023 in Ivory Coast to early 2024 due to the rainy season there. In recent years, there have been frequent changes in the host countries and tournament hosting dates.
The Africa Cup is held every two years, but was recently postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Senegal won the last edition in early 2022 with current Bayern Munich professional Sadio Mane.
