In Bolzano, Sam Antonich, son of former tennis star Alexander, gave the Graz99ers a quick lead in the third minute of the power game. Then, South Tyroleans pressed to equalize, while Grazers were unable to use a double advantage for two minutes from the 27th minute to make it 2-0.
And so it happened: Domenico Alberga scored in the 34th minute to equalize 1-1. After this intermediate score after two-thirds, Stereon was also unlucky when Amadeus Egger drove his puck into his own net in the 43rd minute. Shortly thereafter, Christian Thomas (46) made it 3-1. A slap from Mike Halmo hit the crossbar in the 54th minute. The home side’s win could have been even bigger.
Desjardins guarantees victory for VSV
It took the Villachers until the 37th minute before they could finally cause celebrations in the hall. Andrew Desjardins scored 1-0 with a shot from the left front circle. However, Postertal also had opportunities, such as shortly before the first break when goalkeeper Jean-Philippe Lamoreaux blocked the score at 1-1. The smallest possible lead means little in ice hockey, and the guests from South Tyrol bit their teeth and pressed hard to equalize.
Although Hughes missed a great opportunity to score 2-0 in the 42nd minute, “Wolves” remained. VSV was lucky with great chances in the 44th and 45th minutes. HC Pustertal wanted to avoid a sixth consecutive defeat by hook or crook. The match remained exciting until the end, with Anthony Bardaro scoring the equalizer in the 56th minute, but Lamoreux was on the post again. It was a successful revenge for the Carinthians after 2:4 in the first match against the “wolves”.
Fehervar is too strong for Vorarlberg
For Pioneers Vorarlberg it was also about getting revenge on Hydro Fehervar. The Hungarians won the first game of the season 5-2 thanks to a strong final third. But also in Feldkirch, the Vorarlberger family finally had to congratulate the guests. Fehervar was already superior in the first third with 13:4 shots, and in the 35th minute István Bartales made the deserved lead. Another hit was not recognized soon afterwards after studying the video.
However, the pioneers were not spared the double strike: in the 44th and 46th minutes it was Chanad Erdeli who made the score 3-0 and made the initial decision. Anze Kuralt made it 4-0 in the 54th minute, giving Szekesfehervar’s team more power in the last half.
