Downhill at Lake Louise: Best Comeback by Thomas Dressen, Victories by Alexander Kilde

Dressen said, “I’m so happy with the trip. I was nervous at first. It felt like coming home. Then I thought: Now I have to deliver. I did it well.”

The 29-year-old, who raised his fist in the end zone and let out a primal scream, has not participated in a World Cup since March 2020. Since then, Dreßen has had to undergo hip and knee surgery. He only tried his luck in the 2021 World Cup.

And Alexander Amodt Kelde of Norway (1:47.98) won by 0.06 seconds over Austrian Daniel Heimetsberger and tenth over last year’s World Cup winner Marco Odermatt of Switzerland.

Romed Baumann (Kiefersfelden) also presented himself forcefully. World Cup runners-up in 2021 in Super-G finished 10th, Dominik Schwaiger (Königssee) finished 12th. Like Dreßen, who secured fourth place, it was their turn too early.

Simon Gaucher completed the German team’s good result in 17th place.

The race on Lake Louise’s “Olympic Downhill” course, where Dressen won the 2019 start after a cruciate ligament tear, was his first World Cup downhill of the season. Two competitions planned for the beginning of October on the Matterhorn were canceled due to weather.
