Stadlober makes up a few places in the chase

At the end of the World Cup opener in cross-country skiing in Ruka, Teresa Stadlauber improved to 17th in the pursuit ski. The woman from Salzburg started the first race over a new record distance of 20 km for both sexes in 22nd place, more than a minute behind.

In the end, the Olympic bronze medalist in figure skating was two and a half minutes behind the winner of Sweden’s Frida Carlsson, and the top ten was over a minute away.

Carlsson won by 33 seconds over compatriot Ebba Andersson, with whom she completed most of the distance together due to the Swedish Classic double win the previous day. Norway’s Tyrell Odnes Wing came in third with a time of 1:11 minutes.

Running encourages Stadlober

“I am satisfied with the 17th place today, even if the top 15 is not quite finished,” said Stadlauber. “Especially since yesterday’s race wasn’t so good, today’s performance is just as good.”

The competition definitely makes her feel confident again. “Especially considering the races that will be held next weekend in Lillehammer,” said the Salzburg native. “My main focus there is on the classic 20km mass start on Sunday.”

Kläbo keeps the competition at bay

In the men’s race, World Cup leader Johannes Hosflotte Klabo won a thrilling race by just 0.7 ahead of compatriot Pal Goldberg and Italian Federico Pellegrino (+1.3) and celebrated his third win in the third race. Mika Vermeulen ended up in 54th place. The World Cup continues next weekend in Lillehammer (North).
