iOS 16.2 beta testing is now coming to an end. According to current information, the beta version released today is the first function update candidate release released by Apple.
The update recently became available as part of the Developer Test program and should make its way to the Public Test program soon. The final release and thus the beginning for all users could therefore take place in the coming days, most likely before the Christmas holidays.
However, this may require that all known errors are corrected and that no new ones appear. Even if another round of beta testing is necessary, the update could still be released this year.
So far, little is known about individual changes in the new design. Among other things, iOS 16.2 gets Apple’s new Freeform whiteboard collaboration app, support for Apple’s new HomeKit architecture, more customization options for the always-on display and much more.
How to join the beta program
The new update is now available as an update. Registered users simply get the new version over the air, i.e. as an online update. Anyone who has not yet signed up for the beta program can do so at any time and join the beta phase. Participation is free and requires a one-time registration in the program beta.apple.com/sp/en/betaprogram from a supported device. An Apple ID is required for this.
Once you sign up, you’ll get new betas automatically, just like any other update. However, one must keep in mind that, as with any beta version, unexpected problems may arise. So Apple states that it is better not to be iPhone productivitybut a second device must be used for the tests.
