Cross country skiing
Cross-country skier Teresa Stadlauber batted off a cold on her way to the world championships. After a ten-day training break, the Salzburg native is back in shape again and will return to the World Cup in Les Rousses this weekend as planned. The Olympic bronze medalist will compete in the distance races on Friday (10km ski) and Sunday (20km classic mass start) in France.
The forced break in the post-Tour de Ski reconstruction phase was troublesome for Stadlauber, but must be bearable given the season’s peak. “It certainly wasn’t ideal for France and Dobbiaco because it took 10 days, but for the World Cup there is no reason to worry,” Stadlauber told APA before leaving for the French Jura.
It remains to be seen if, and how, the coldness had a lasting effect on her form, which increased throughout the tour. “I didn’t catch a fever, but you lose days. I made the best of it,” said Stadlauber. First, I couldn’t manage that for a long time. I was already very satisfied.”
Focus on the World Cup
Stadlober’s last scheduled race before the World Championships in Planica is scheduled for February 4 in Dobbiaco. There is a cross-country skiing competition over 10 km on the programme. You will then complete a two-week training block in Ramsau.
Getting acquainted with the World Cup cross-country skiing tracks after the tour was not very productive because the weather was still warm at that time and there was little snow, only half of the cross-country skiing slopes were prepared. But before the World Cup, there will still be enough opportunity to do so due to the proximity to Slovenia, according to Stadlauber.
Benjamin Moser, who was ill, had to cancel Les Rosses on short notice. On the other hand, Mika Vermeulen is back in the World Cup after a long training period.
