Tehran, Riyadh Iran and Saudi Arabia have been bitterly hostile for years, and now the two countries are getting closer to each other. As a first step, the foreign ministers of the rival countries want to meet, state media of the two countries said on Friday. Accordingly, the high government officials signed the agreement in a meeting held in China.
The United States has traditionally been a close ally of Saudi Arabia, but disaffection has grown in recent years. Washington is responsible for the Saudi-Iranian rapprochement, said an observer in Riyadh. Biden is “hostile” to the Saudis and is now getting credit for it.
China on the other hand is growing strongly. The Iran-Saudi deal was brokered by China in Beijing. Both Tehran and Riyadh officially thanked the People’s Republic for their good offices.
Riyadh and Tehran now want to resolve their differences through talks. Both countries agreed to reopen embassies within two months.
