Summer’s solution is here: 25 cracked degrees

In Innsbruck, 25 degrees was measured for the first time this year. This means that summer is here.

The weather station in Innsbruck on Thursday reached or exceeded the 25-degree mark for the first time this year in Austria, marking the first summer day of the year.

So the first day of summer is somewhat later than the long-term average.

After April was already about two degrees too cold compared to the long-term average, according to experts from the Austrian Center for Severe Weather (www.uwz.at), the first day of summer 2023 was also reached a little later. Average duration, in the last 10 years it was usually in April.

In the years 2021, 2017 and 2016 the mark was broken at the end of March, in 2018 the first hot day with temperatures above 30 degrees was recorded on April 20.

If you look at provincial capitals and compare the long-term average from 1991-2020 to that from 1961-1990, the first day of summer has been recorded on average one to two weeks earlier in the past 30 years. “In Innsbruck, it was about May 12th on average, and in the last 30 years it was already April 29th,” explains Manfred Spatzerer, chief meteorologist at the Austrian Severe Weather Center (www.uwz.at).

The mark was also reached about 10 days ago in Klagenfurt and Linz, and about two weeks ago in Graz.

The weather is still unstable

While rain and thunderstorms are still limited to the west of the country on Friday, a changeable phase of weather with a mixture of sun, some clouds and several thunderstorms will start across the country from Saturday.

Little will change in the new week, and no more stable weather is expected at first. Plus, temperatures are dropping again, so there are no summer days on the horizon for now.
