The German national football team and national coach Hansi Flick will visit Japan again in September. The international tournament in Wolfsburg on September 9 marks the start of the European Championship season.
Three days later, a high-profile performance test will take place in Dortmund against eventual champions France. DFB lost 2-1 to Japan at the World Cup in Qatar. The false start led to the next preliminary round from the German test.
In October, Flick travels to the United States with the national team. The first of the two opponents has been decided: on October 14, the German team will meet the USA, one of the three host countries of the 2026 World Cup, in Hartford, the capital of the US state of Connecticut.
Three more internationals this season
“For me, the games against Japan and France are really great highlights in our preparation program for the European Championship in our home country. France is the runner-up in 2022 and the world champion in 2018 and the European Championship title,” Flick said: “With Japan we have another strong match. We look forward to the opponent, as the World Cup showed. Then we meet the World Cup hosts USA, who are very motivated in preparation for the domestic tournament. The game is a very attractive challenge in terms of the game and the atmosphere.”
At the end of the current season, the national team will play three international matches against Ukraine in Bremen (June 12), Poland in Warsaw (June 16) and Colombia (June 20) in Gelsenkirchen. Flick will announce his squad for these EM trials this Friday. The teams will meet in Frankfurt am Main on June 7. As last time, training will be held at the DFB campus. His first internationals in 2023 included a 2–0 win against Peru and a 2–3 win against Belgium in March.
