Another setback for Joan Mir: withdrawing from Mugello due to injury

(Motorsport-Total.com) – The Italian Grand Prix at Mugello ended prematurely for Honda works driver Joan Mir. After a crash in Friday’s second practice session, the Spaniard will miss the rest of the weekend in Tuscany.

“Joan Mir and the Repsol Honda Team have decided to forgo the rest of the weekend due to a right hand injury which he sustained in mid-fall during second practice,” the Factory Honda team announced Friday evening.

The start to the Mugello weekend was already a bumpy one for Mir. In first practice, the 2020 MotoGP season world champion didn’t go past the P20. Joan Mir lost 1.493 seconds to the best time set by Ducati rider Alex Marquez.

In the second practice, Mir was inserted into P23. After twelve laps, Mir’s session was over. The fall in the second practice was another setback for the newcomer to the Repsol Honda Team. The past weekends have already been marked by fall.

This is why Mir is only P21 in the drivers’ standings. The Spanish Honda driver has not finished in the points since the season opener at Portimao. Due to the withdrawal at Mugello, there will be no further points for the sixth Grand Prix weekend of the current MotoGP season.
