1.79 kilos of truffles were found in Italy – rolling pin

The last record find, which is currently immortalized in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest truffle in the world, dates back to 2014. The truffle found by Sabatino Tartuffe weighed 1890 grams, but shrank to 1786 grams through evaporation until it was found in New York.

One can imagine the leaps of joy that 79-year-old truffle collector Romolo Lazzari made in the woods near Città di Castello over the weekend after lifting a tuber from the ground weighing 1.79kg. “I haven’t seen anything like this in all these years. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I don’t deserve praise, but Pepe, my six-year-old truffle dog,” Lazzari told Italian news portal Rai. The standard truffle is the black truffle, which sells for around 500 euros a kilo. Prices for white truffles are around €3,500 a kilo this year – with large, fine specimens often fetching much more at auctions.
