Nokia G42 is introduced with 50MP camera and Snapdragon 480+

HMD has unveiled the new Nokia G42, a mid-range phone with a focus on repairability. Together with specialists from iFixit, Nokia will provide repair manuals and OEM parts such as displays, batteries and charging connectors for the G42 for a period of five years. This will make it the first Nokia 5G phone that customers can fix themselves. The back is made of recycled plastic and houses a 50-megapixel main camera with an f/1.8 lens, as well as a 2-megapixel macro camera and a 2-megapixel depth sensor.

The Nokia G42 is based on a 6.56-inch IPS LCD display with HD+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. The display also features a waterdrop notch for the 8MP front camera and is protected by Gorilla Glass 3. It is powered by the Snapdragon 480+ chipset with 4/6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, which can be expanded via a microSD card slot. Android 13 is used as the operating system, but HMD promises two years of OS updates and three years of monthly security patches.

The Nokia G42 is powered by a 5,000mAh battery with 20W fast charging. According to HMD, the cell should last three days with average use and retain 80% of its original capacity after 800 charge cycles. There is also an IP52 certification, a headphone jack and a fingerprint sensor built into the side.

Nokia G42 is available in purple and gray colours. Prices start at €249 / £199 for the 6 / 128GB version. A new screen costs €50 / £45, a replacement battery €25 / £23 and the charging port kit €20 / £19.
