The impressive start of Salzburger Austria did not end in the Western District League in the Silver City. The Cheddars took their chances to make it 2-0 and after three rounds laughed the most points out of the top of the table.
The team had a tough time against the well-adjusted Tyroleans for a long time and Schwaz created some chances. Midfielder Marinco Sorda said after the match, “In the first half, we were barely controlling the game.” With a lot of commitment and a bit of luck – or bad luck, depending on your point of view – he went aimlessly into the dressing room.
Great start to the second half
Austria had a much better start in the second round. In the 54th minute it’s time. After a nice attacking action, Altringer went down in the penalty area. Clear decision of Referee Makanovic – Penalty to Austria. Matthias Thinner made it 1-0 from Austria’s point of view.
Schwaz has chances, Austria goal
Shortly after the penalty kick, Schwaz had the chance to equalise. Alone in front of the goalkeeper Kalman, he miserably forgave Florian Tebuch.
Violet managed to get better and speed up the sides in the direction of Schwazer Tor. And that was enough for Austria to make a preliminary decision. Altringer shot from the right towards Volkert, a Tyrolean attempt to defend put the ball in front of the legs of Yannick Wochel, who shot without much ado – 2-0 to the Austrian in the 75th minute.
Shortly before the end of the match, many of the Austrian fans who traveled with them caught their breath again. Schwaz’s Martin Schmadl shot the ball from close range onto the crossbar. The Tyroleans were denied a goal, so three points went to Austria.
The first win at Schwaz under coach Christian Scheider put Austria two points clear of VfB Hohenems at the top of the standings.
