Vienna Vikings with a perfect regular season in the ELF

The Vienna Vikings continued their record streak in the European Football League (ELF) with their 12th win in the 12th game of the season, thus posting a perfect regular season without defeat. On Saturday, the reigning champions had no problem beating the Prague Lions 55:9, even with several substitutes. It was their 14th consecutive win over the seasons. The Tirol Raiders preserved their chance at the playoffs with a 42:27 victory over the Milano Seamen.

The Vikings long ago qualified for this, and as winners of the Eastern Conference, they also saved themselves a wild card round, going straight to the semifinals. “The job is not done yet. Now it’s time for the playoffs,” said team coach Chris Kalakai. The Vikings, who haven’t lost a home game in two seasons, will play the ELF Semifinals on September 16th at the Generalie Arena in Vienna-Favoriten. The final will be held on September 24 in Duisburg.

After a secure victory in Italy, the raiders had to hope for support from Hamburg or Szekesfehervar. “I don’t want to wish anyone a defeat, but we hope to beat Hamburg or the Interrunners to qualify for the playoffs,” said Kevin Heron. The Raiders coach was particularly satisfied with the second half: “We played the way we planned.”
