BMW Group Plant Steyr and TU Wien Racing inspire at the Red Bull Ring

Steyr/Vienna/Spielberg. TU Wien Racing took part in the Formula Student race on the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg with its electric car EDGE 14. For the first time, the team received support from BMW Group Plant Steyr, which has been one of the main sponsors since this season. The Formula Student is an international competition between students who set themselves the task of developing the perfect racing car and using it to score valuable points in international races.

BMW Group Plant Steyr supports the team not only financially but also with a lot of knowledge. Both sides can learn a lot from each other. “The collaboration with TU Wien Racing demonstrates once again that motorsport is an excellent platform for innovation and teamwork. It is with great pride that we can accompany these young talents on their way. We are looking forward to the partnership,” says Christopher Schuster, Head of Training, Further Education and Employment at Steyr. “Long-term and more exchange with talented students.”

The racing team has been around since 2007. The team’s current vehicle – the all-electric EDGE 14 – has it all. A powerful electric motor propels the race car to 100 km/h in less than three seconds. Over the past year, 50 talented students have worked passionately on developing and building the race car. The training workshop at the BMW Group plant in Steyr was also pleased to produce some important components for the EDGE 14.

Good placements for the TU Wien race

TU Wien Racing is currently ranked 22nd out of 279 universities worldwide and has managed to collect valuable points once again in Spielberg. “We were able to achieve second place in the business plan presentation and third place for our engineering design team. “We also placed third in the Inyo Hydrogen Challenge,” says team leader Lisa Widmaier.
