According to South Korea, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un arrived in Russia on his way to meet Kremlin President Vladimir Putin. Seoul’s Defense Ministry said there were indications that Kim’s special train crossed the border in the morning (local time). Moscow confirmed his arrival in Russia.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Putin’s meeting with Kim will take place in the far east of Russia. Where exactly has not yet been said. The spokesman was quoted by TASS news agency as saying that there will be meetings between the two delegations and individual discussions before the official dinner.
Kim has been traveling since Sunday
After days of speculation abroad, only yesterday Moscow and Pyongyang confirmed Kim’s “official visit” to Russia. The United States suspects it will primarily relate to arms deals between Russia and the deeply isolated North Korea.
North Korean state media reported today that Kim had already boarded his train in Pyongyang on Sunday afternoon, accompanied by representatives of the ruling Workers’ Party, the government and the military. The photos showed that he was accompanied by Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui and others.
