“I bow in farewell and ask: Did what I saw really happen in the many beautiful forests outside Athens? Or was it just a dream after all on that wonderful summer night? So ended William Shakespeare’s classic play ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, presented by the first high school in ErLEBnisschule Maria Enzersdorf at the end of the school in front of more than 250 spectators amidst great applause and enthusiasm. The young actors spent an entire school year working on the piece by shortening the text but leaving it in the original language, designing props and recomposing the music for piano, saxophone and clarinet. This was not limited to distributing the roles Not only were they rehearsed on their own initiative, but some of the young people also had to play several roles, which posed a special challenge.
Project supervisor Philip Lerch says: “The initiative came from the students to present a play, and many students responded enthusiastically.” But the biggest challenge was not neglecting school educational materials in addition to intensive preparations.
Due to this great success, the group has now set more dates: “The students are very excited,” Lerch says happily. “We are planning to do a new piece for January, and we are currently in the discovery and decision phase.”
