“I want to complete my program the way I plan to do it. Ideally in all four majors.”
There are 14 races on the men’s World Cup program until Christmas. The match is traditionally held in Sölden on October 29 and continues in Zermatt/Cervinia in mid-November. This is followed by Gurgul, Beaver Creek, Val d’Isère, Val Gardena, Alta Badia and Madonna di Campiglio. Then the Carinthian would like to take stock of the matter.
In order to prepare for the mammoth program and the pressures of travel, Schwartz gained muscle mass over the summer. “My weight is currently 88 kilograms. I have been able to survive the winter well in recent years and have lost almost nothing,” said the Austrian.
At the World Cup final in Andorra in March, Schwarz stood on the podium in a super-G tournament for the first time. He is motivated by the speed results: “I installed a speed unit in the spring. I want to continue doing that, but I also don’t want to neglect the technical disciplines. I really enjoy changing disciplines, everything in Chile is trained in a balanced way.”
Lions: World Cup in general “you can’t plan”
With his bold plan, Schwarz also underscores his ambitions for the World Cup in general. However, this cannot be “planned”. “A lot has to come together for the big ball,” the 2021 joint world champion explained in an interview with the Courier newspaper.
He certainly wants to upset the greats Marco Odermatt and Alexander Aamodt Kjeld at least a little: “My goal is to stand up to that and maybe win in the downhill.”
The season begins on October 29 with the giant slalom on the Rettenbachwerner track. The first sprint race will be held on November 11 at the Matterhorn two weeks later.
