The 2030 World Cup Anniversary Edition will be held in six countries. The tournament begins in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay, then Morocco, Spain and Portugal will host the tournament.

DrThe 2030 World Cup is scheduled to open in South America, and then it will be held in Morocco, Spain and Portugal. The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) announced this on Wednesday after a meeting of the FIFA Council. This means that the World Cup will be held on three continents for the first time. The opening match is scheduled to be held in Uruguay, with two other matches to be held in Argentina and Paraguay. With this, FIFA also wants to celebrate the anniversary of the tournament accordingly. The first World Cup was held in Uruguay in 1930.

The three South American countries originally wanted to hold the entire tournament, but FIFA refused. After the three matches, the tournament will continue with the participation of 48 teams: Morocco, Spain and Portugal. All six teams automatically qualify for the final round. An anniversary celebration will also be held in Montevideo, the capital of the first World Cup host Uruguay.

FIFA’s announcement came as a surprise. In fact, the tournament was not supposed to be awarded until 2024 at the 74th FIFA Congress. This means that World Cup matches will be held in North Africa, Portugal and Paraguay for the first time. Uruguay hosted the first edition in 1930, Argentina hosted the World Cup in 1978, and Spain hosted the World Cup in 1982.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino said: “In a divided world, FIFA and football unite.” The centenary of the World Cup should be celebrated in the most appropriate way. Infantino said: “The first of these three matches will of course be held in the stadium where it all began, in the legendary Montevideo Stadium.”

The 2026 World Cup is scheduled to be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada. According to FIFA’s announcement, only representatives of Asia and Oceania should apply for the 2034 World Cup. Saudi Arabia is very interested in the role of host.
