Southern Israel is being hit particularly hard by the major attack launched by Hamas. Residents of the kibbutz on the border with Gaza describe dramatic scenes, and talk about the killing, wounding, and kidnapping of many people as hostages.
KIt has been four weeks since Ofir Lipstein insisted on calling on a viewing platform in southern Israel, overlooking the Gaza Strip. “Our hope is that at some point we will be able to live together in peace. The people of Gaza will not disappear, and we will not disappear. That is why we have to work We must find solutions so that we can finally be good neighbors.” About a month later, the father of the family died.
The Shaar Hanegev Regional Council said Lipstein was killed early Saturday morning “in an exchange of fire with terrorists.” He was clearly trying to defend the border town that had been overrun by Hamas fighters as part of their major offensive. On Saturday, eyewitnesses reported that there was a “sea of corpses” in the streets of Sderot, burned cars and buildings destroyed by missiles.
