The German national soccer team will first make a controversial trip to the United States without striker Kai Havards.
The 24-year-old professional from Arsenal FC had “a little dental surgery” at the weekend, new national coach Julian Nagelsmann said at Frankfurt Airport. “It’s nothing wild. But he needs recovery until the pressure (on his head) allows him to fly. For now, he’ll travel on Wednesday,” Nagelsmann said.
Otherwise, there have been “no adverse reports” from the other 25 players he has nominated for internationals next Saturday in Hartford (9 p.m./RTL) and Wednesday against Mexico in Philadelphia. Nagelsmann added that Dortmund returnee Mats Hummels is also “perfectly able to play”.
The 34-year-old defender sat out BVB’s Bundesliga game against Union Berlin injured at the weekend. “Boys always have some aches and pains. He actually looks for duels in the game and gets attacked.
Nagelsmann builds on the 2014 world champion who last played for Germany at the 2021 European Championships. “We need players to take responsibility. He has a lot of desire to play a leading role again, to play for the DFB again. He can give a great performance,” Nagelsmann noted. He added that all the actors who travel with him to Foxborough from Tuesday “will be able to train”. He is excited.
