Joe Biden, who has been sworn in as the President of the United States in 2024, is going to take office again. In the internal Democratic primary, he now has an unexpected new challenger: Rep. Dean Phillips.
In the race for re-nomination for the Democratic Party’s nomination for President of the United States, incumbent Joe Biden has an additional challenger. Minnesota State Representative Dean Phillips has announced his candidacy. He wants to run against Biden in the party’s internal primary — especially since he thinks he’s too old for another term. Biden moved into the White House in 2021, making him the oldest president to date. He will be 81 when elected in November 2024.
“It’s time to pass the torch to a new generation of American leaders,” Phillips, 54, told a campaign rally in Concord, New Hampshire. He wants to fix the economy. Phillips pointed to high prices and “confusion” at the U.S. border with Mexico. Biden has done a lot for the country, MP told CBS. “But it’s not about the past. It’s a choice about the future.”
Rich, but no chance
Phillips is one of the wealthiest members of Congress. He is the heir to the Philips Distilling Company, which manufactures spirits. However, observers see little scope for his application.
Author Marianne Williamson, 71, also wants to run for the Democratic Party and is running against Biden in the Democratic internal primary. But she is considered to have no chance. Former US President John F. Kennedy’s son-in-law, Robert F. Kennedy also originally wanted to run for the Democratic nomination against Biden. However, he recently announced that he will run as an independent candidate for the White House.
