Trump must again adhere to “gag order” in election fraud investigation

Date: October 30, 2023 2:52 am

The order was rescinded ten days ago, but now former US President Trump must abide by it again: A federal judge has reinstated a ban on speaking at trial for attempted election fraud.

In the criminal trial of Donald Trump for election fraud, the former US president now has to keep his words in check. A federal judge reinstated the ban on speech, evidence from trial documents shows. He blamed it on the former president in the Washington inquiry surrounding Trump’s election loss in 2020.

The lawsuit alleges Trump illegally interfered with the vote count and blocked congressional certification of his 2020 loss to Biden. The order prohibits Trump from verbally attacking lawyers or witnesses.

In the past, Trump has described special counsel Jack Smith as a “confused lunatic” and a “thug,” among other things. Trump has four pending criminal cases, in each of which he made disparaging comments about lawyers. The order was temporarily lifted on October 20 after Trump’s lawyers appealed.
