Ducati makes history after the Thai Grand Prix

An ordinary but crucial moment occurred in Buriram on Saturday afternoon. Brad Bender (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) took second in the Tissot Sprint, while Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) finished seventh, mathematically eliminating the South African from the MotoGP™ title race. Although this result seems insignificant at first glance, it is considered a milestone for Ducati, as they were able to win their second title in a row for the first time in their history. With only three races remaining in this exceptional 2023 season, the dream of the World Championship title remains within reach only for Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team), Jorge Martin (Prema Pramac Racing) and Marco Pizzici (Moni VR46 Racing Team).

Given the way the season has gone so far, it’s no surprise that the Borgo Panigale brand secured its fourth consecutive constructors’ title (and fifth overall). Together, Pico Bagnaia, Jorge Martin and Marco Pizzicchi have won 13 of the 17 Grand Prix races to date. With Johann Zarco (Prema Pramac Racing Team) winning the Australian Grand Prix, Ducati achieved a total of 14 victories. The fact that the Italian manufacturer has been on the podium and on the front row at every race since the first underscores the manufacturer’s consistent and undeniable dominance, which rightly earned it the constructors’ title after the Tissot Sprint at the Indonesian Grand Prix.

Gigi Dall’Igna, Ducati Corse’s general manager, remains quiet about the three-way battle for the world championship between the two riders, describing it as a “battle between brothers”:

“We will give all our riders the best information so they can do their best. We will try to give them the best possible bike to fight; that is our job and that is what we have to do in the last three races.”

Paolo Ciabati, the brand’s sporting director, made a similar statement: “It is the first time that Ducati has won two riders’ titles in a row. Who will be the world champion? I think we will find out in Valencia; it will be so.” The best way to end an amazing MotoGP™ season.”
