Users should be able to create custom “GPTs” that specialize in individual areas, such as tips for business negotiations or removing stains from clothing.

Chatbot ChatGPT’s developer, OpenAI, wants to enable a variety of custom AI applications. “We’ll be able to do more, create more and get more,” OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said Monday at OpenAI’s first developer conference in San Francisco. “When ubiquitous intelligence is integrated, we will all have superpowers on demand.”

According to OpenAI, more than 2 million developers currently use ChatGPT, which means a total of more than 100 million people use the platform every week. Now users will be able to create custom apps – called “GPTs” – that specialize in individual areas, such as tips for business negotiations or removing stains from clothes.

No programming needed

“Anyone can easily create their own GPT – no programming required,” OpenAI explained in a blog post. “You can make it for yourself, just for your company’s internal use, or for everyone.” OpenAI also wants to open a similar GPT store for online marketplaces for games and apps. Developers should be able to make money depending on how many people use their GPTs. Altman, head of OpenAI, also announced a “Turbo” version of ChatGPT. “It’s a smarter model,” he said at the developer conference on Monday.

ChatGPT was launched about a year ago. The software is able to use artificial intelligence (AI) to create essays, poems or conversations through very short prompts. ChatGPT suddenly made a large audience aware of the potential of AI – which also led to concerns about the potential of AI.
