Rumors surround Banksy’s name after a 2003 interview

As Bristol Live reported from Banksy’s birthplace in western England on Tuesday, artist Robin Gunningham, who many assumed was Banksy for years, used the name Robin Banks. Robbie may be a nickname for Robin.

The portal stressed that Robbie can also refer to other identities, such as Robert del Naja, the artist and member of the band Massive Attack, who hails from the city of Bristol. Del Naja has also been considered a potential Banksy for years.

The interview was conducted by BBC culture correspondent Nigel Wrench. When the BBC released the podcast “The Banksy Story,” in which Banksy’s voice can be heard in a US radio interview from 2005, Wrench recalled the conversation, the public broadcaster reported on Tuesday. He found his entire interview on a mini-disc at home – and the BBC added an episode to the already finished podcast.

In the conversation, Banksy compared his approach to art to cooking. His mother cooked a roast every Sunday, a typical Sunday roast. It took a long time, but it was dealt with quickly. She now eats microwave meals and feels much happier. “I have, in a way, transferred this approach to art. I want it to be done.”

Banksy also denied the vandalism allegations. “I’m not here to apologize for that. It’s a quicker way to get your point across, right?” The artist stressed: “Get out! Destroy things! Have fun!” Other people can draw on the work, he said.
