“The time has come”: Kroos announces the end of his career

A few weeks ago he terminated his contract with Paderborn, and now the end has come: Max Kruse ends his professional career at the age of 35.

In July, after a break from football, Max Kruse turned to a new adventure and joined SC Paderborn. The veteran wanted to start again in the second Bundesliga. But nothing happened, because at the end of November, the player and the club announced the termination of the contract “by mutual agreement.”

The former national player only played five times for SCP.

There will be no further professional appearances for Kroos, as the long-time striker announced the end of his career in a live broadcast from Florida on his Instagram channel on Wednesday evening. “It is time for me to start a new phase of life at the age of 35,” said the player, who played in the Bundesliga 307 times. “In this sense, football is over for me for the time being.”

At least that’s the end of his career. Kroos still wants to continue playing, and has already announced that he wants to play for traditional club SV Werder Bremen. He will make his debut there on January 5 at the indoor tournament in Oldenburg.

Captain Werder – 14 times for Germany

Kroos began his professional career at Bremen, then played for St. Pauli, Freiburg, Gladbach and VfL Wolfsburg before returning to Weser in 2016. There he had a successful time under coach Florian Kohfeldt, with the striker even leading Werder onto the pitch as captain.

The 35-year-old then moved to Fenerbahce and Union Berlin before moving to Wolfsburg. After a poor end to Wolves, where he was rejected by Niko Kovac, he took a break for a few months and then joined Paderborn last summer. After this unsuccessful last chapter, it’s now over.

Kroos, who played 14 times for Germany, impressed throughout his career as a brilliant footballer with a goal-scoring instinct, but he was not always without controversy, occasionally making headlines away from the pitch.
