The type of coronavirus, initially detected in India, is spreading further in Great Britain.
Health Minister Matt Hancock said in Parliament on Monday that there are 2,323 confirmed cases nationwide. That’s 1,000 well over the May 12th. It is particularly influenced by the cities of Bolton and Blackburn in central England. There are indications that the variant is more contagious than previously known forms. But the extent is still unknown.
More than 20 million people have been fully vaccinated in the UK
Hancock noted that early analysis indicates that vaccines protect against the variant. In Bolton and Blackburn, a total of 27 people are being treated in clinics for this variant. Hancock said that these patients had not been vaccinated. “Vaccinations save lives,” Hancock said, calling on everyone to take an injection. There was a huge rush of vaccinations in Bolton over the weekend. To date, more than 20 million people in the UK have been fully vaccinated against the virus, just under a third of the population. From this Tuesday onwards, anyone over the age of 37 can make an appointment.
The opposition blames the government for the spread
The opposition holds the government responsible for the spread of the “Indian” alternative. I hesitated for weeks to put India on a “red list” simply because Prime Minister Boris Johnson had long stuck to an eventual canceled visit to the South Asian country to negotiate a free trade agreement. During this time, about 20,000 people from India entered Great Britain.
