Thus, we are drawing attention to the global destruction of nature and demanding from politicians a global agreement to conserve nature so that the causes of global species extinctions can finally be firmly combated, ”says WWF program director Hannah Simmons. “Thanks to the collaboration with the Eurovision Song Contest and WWF Ambassador Armin van Buuren, we can reach millions of people with our mission to protect our planet.”
DJ Armin van Buuren, known worldwide with his song “Million Voices”, contributed to the joint campaign He is also asking for the support of his fans: “If we stand together, we can make a difference. That’s why I’m calling on all of my fans to sign the global petition #VoiceForThePlanet and raise their voices.”
2021 will be a major year for our planet: The COP-15 United Nations Biodiversity Conference in Kunming (China) and the COP-26 United Nations Climate Conference in Glasgow (UK) are milestones in the fight against species extinction and the climate crisis. The collaboration between WWF and the Economic and Social Council aims to increase the pressure on heads of state and government in the lead up to these conferences, and to invite them by a million votes to adopt and implement ambitious goals and effective measures to protect our planet.
