It should be clarified whether the Ministry's guidance is sufficient to ensure that in the event of illness – as was the case with Lloyd Austin – responsibilities are clarified and notification chains work.
After US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was severely criticized for keeping his hospital stay secret, the Pentagon launched an internal investigation. The Pentagon said Thursday that the department's inspectorate will begin reviewing Austin's actions related to his hospitalization later this month.
It should be clarified whether the Ministry's guidelines are sufficient to ensure clarity of responsibilities and functioning of notification chains in the event of illness.
Austin announced Tuesday that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. According to the White House, US President Joe Biden did not learn of the diagnosis until a few hours before the public. According to Austin doctors, the disease was diagnosed at the beginning of December. Shortly before Christmas he underwent surgery. Complications occurred at the beginning of January, which is why the 70-year-old is still in hospital. The White House expressed clear criticism of the media policy pursued by the head of the Pentagon and ordered a review of procedures for such cases. (APA/DPA)
