Patrick Mouratoglou gives possible reasons for Novak Djokovic's semi-final exit: Too much pressure on the Serbian

Patrick Mouratoglou gives possible reasons for Novak Djokovic's semi-final exit: Too much pressure on the Serbian

Before his semi-final exit to eventual tournament winner Jannik Sinner on the hard courts under the Australian sun, Djokovic had gone 33 matches unbeaten and thus moved closer to Bjorn Borg's record. At Wimbledon, the Swede achieved the feat of winning 41 matches in a row on London's hallowed grass.

Mouratoglou believes that pressure to continue this incredible run was a factor in the world number one's defeat at Melbourne Park.

Djokovic himself confirmed this assumption immediately after the match and extracted positives from the defeat to Sinner. “It was almost good to give up a match to reset and refocus,” the 23-time Grand Slam champion said after the semi-final exit.

Serena Williams' former coach was surprised by Djokovic's poor performance at times. The French player said in a video clip on Instagram: “It was very shocking to see Novak unable to play in the semi-finals of one of the Grand Slams.”

Mouratoglou believes that Djokovic will continue to win the title

The 53-year-old added, “Djokovic played one of the worst matches I have ever seen from him.”
