Velm-Götzendorf – Who helps amphibians cross the road?

At the beginning of spring in March, the Nature Conservation Society of Lower Austria once again launches the largest species protection campaign by rescuing amphibians on the streets of Lower Austria.

However, the club is still urgently looking for help to take care of the amphibious track in Velm-Götzendorf. Every year, amphibians migrate to spawning areas in the first weeks of spring from the beginning of March to reproduce.

On this journey, many frogs, toads and salamanders have to cross dangerous roads and risk being run over.

The Nature Conservation Society of Lower Austria and its network of many volunteer hiking trail supervisors want to prevent this.

To take care of the amphibious track in Velm-Götzendorf, the association urgently needs helpers who will regularly check the protective fences and carry the amphibians in buckets across the road during the approximately six-week walking period (the duration is highly dependent on the weather).
